In today's troubled economy, more and more people are getting back to
the basics and doing their own vehicle repairs, much like our
fathers and grandfathers did in years past. Unfortunately, today's
vehicles are much more complicated than the vehicles our parents and
grandparents maintained. My grandfather always said he could fix
anything on his car with a pair of pliers and a piece of wire. That may
have been an oversimplification, but I think we can all agree that it
is not always easy to repair a vehicle problem without following
specific repair procedures developed for the specific problem and the
specific vehicle model.
Our research revealed that hundreds of creative fix-it-yourself individuals like you are searching the
Internet each day for instrument cluster removal procedures and
various other vehicle repair procedures. So
the question we asked was "Why not just use existing repair
manuals instead of searching for
procedures? We observed, as you probably observed too, most auto
repair manuals try
to cover every possible repair you might ever need for your vehicle.
Unfortunately, trying to cover everything in just one manual
means the procedures have to be as condensed and as brief as
possible for keep the
size of the manual down to a reasonable size. Therefore, the writers
and publishers can only hit the high points for each procedure. In
order to fit so many procedures in a single volume,
they must leave out a lot of the details and simply assume that we all
know the twelve or twenty sub-steps necessary to "remove Component A".
Most repair manuals also make you to remove things that do not
need to be removed, resulting in a lot of extra (and unnecessary)
work. (More work means more opportunities to screw something up.)
For example, the most popular auto repair manuals on the market begin
the heater core replacement
procedure by telling you to discharge your air conditioner, remove your
steering wheel & driver side air bag, remove your wiring harness and pull
it through the firewall, and finally, remove the entire instrument panel
(dashboard) from the vehicle. That's a lot like saying to drive
from Miami to Washington DC, you must drive through Denver and
Chicago.
Of course the
end result is the same, but I'd sure hate to use only road maps that
didn't show me the most direct way to get from point A to point B.
By the same token, why should you go to a lot of extra work
simply because your existing repair manual says to remove a lot of
unnecessary
parts?
In our upcoming Fix It Yourself Ford Heater Core Replacement Manual,
we will show you how to replace your leaking Ford heater core without
unnecessarily removing your wiring harness, without removing your
steering wheel, without removing your driver-side air bag, without
removing your instrument panel from the vehicle and without discharging
your air conditioner.
We know that most people are looking for repair procedures that include
a lot more details -- procedures with large full-color photographs and
which have you to remove or disconnect only
that which is absolutely necessary. Knowing this, we decided to help
provide what you are searching for by developing a series of "Fix It Yourself" repair manuals. Each of our manuals covers only one specific repair. Each manual is devoted entirely to the one repair that is most important to you at the moment -- THE ONE repair that you are trying to do RIGHT NOW. That repair is covered in more detail and explanations than you will find anyplace else.
After all, which is more important to you -- the repair procedure you are trying to do right now.....or
the other 30 or 40 procedures in your repair manual that have nothing
to do with your current problem and are therefore of no benefit to you
for the particular problem you are trying to fix today? Of course, the most important is the one repair procedure that you need in order to fix the problem that you have today.
Our Fix It Yourself automotive repair
series will provide uncommon information and little-known secrets
that will not be found in other repair manuals.
We have published three manuals in our "Fix
It Yourself" series. More are on the way. We will update the following list
as new volumes are published. If you would like to be notified as the new
manuals become available for your Ford vehicle, please click here.
